This page covert the cabinet refinishing work starting with the music roll cabinet which was locked.
I had to remove the back to go into the cabinet to remove the lock from inside but found the lock to be not accessible from the back as normal but that it was mounted on the inside from the edge of the door. Evidence of someone trying to open the door is visible in picture #1. (I have also repaired this damage)
so another trick was used to open the door and remove the lock.
The lock is actually broken and the tong had fallen into the locked position which gave the impression of it being locked and there was no broken key inside the lock.

Sept 29 2022 The refinishing of the piano is now well on its way to completion, over the past two weeks the case and bench have been hand stripped of the old varnish finish and the true grain and burling or red fire of the mahogany is very visable and will be an outstand instrument once refinished. The following picture progress report, will give a little idea of the progress
Following Picture progress report of the bench restoration, repairs etc.
Oct 17 2022 Work moved back onto the refinishing part of the restoration. Below is a collection of pictures taken over 8 days of work. There were over 35 repairs required from entire toe blocks to corners missing from the veneer to small dents and even a few screws that came through from the inside into the veneer back when it was built!!
I checked the serial number and this instrument was built in 1915 and was their "Premier" model
PICTURES ARE UNFORTUNATELY NOT ALWAYS IN THE ORDER HERE THAT THEY WERE TAKEN SO PLEASE CLICK ON ANY PICTURE OF INTEREST.
